Think for a moment about God's timing. During the period of history between Malachi and Matthew, God put in place the first common world language: Greek. A short time later, the Romans were the first to develop a system of roads and towns all over Europe and the Middle East. God used both to pave the way for the introduction of His Son, Jesus Christ, and provide a means to effectively spread the Good News throughout the world. I truly believe we live in another significant time. According to Technorati (web traffic measurement) there are 150 million websites and 100 million blogs in existence today. Not a bad increase from 0 websites and 0 blogs just 15 years ago. It took radio 38 years of growth to reach 50 million people. Television took only 13 years to reach the same number. The Internet took just 4 years to reach 50 million people. Apple sold 50 million iPods in just 3 years. After 2 years of general use, Facebook connected 50 million people, and it took Google only 20 days to conduct 50 million searches. We live in exponential times. This fall we are sharing with you different ways to use simple technology and social networking to be more intentional about giving people an opportunity to respond to the hope, forgiveness, and life found only in Jesus. Last month, we gave you some tips for utilizing the NeedHim.org website on your own homepage, blogs, emails, etc. Today, our Creative e-vangelism email centers on using Facebook to begin a discussion about Jesus Christ with your friends. |

Of particular interest has been the exponential growth of Facebook. As of 2009, there are 28 million registered users of Facebook, and those users upload 10 million photos every day! Maybe it doesn’t surprise you, but Facebook’s 35- to 54-year-old demographic segment not only continues to grow the fastest, but it accelerated to a 276% growth rate over the past 6 months. That segment of Facebook users is DOUBLING roughly every two months. Besides simply posting pictures of the family picnic or using it to find friends from high school, your Facebook profile is a snapshot of who you are. As you know, the Status, Causes, Networks, Notes, Videos, and Photos on your Profile all combine to say who you are and what you believe in. Facebook is a perfect opportunity to tell the friends in your network of the hope you have in Jesus. One of the easiest ways is to join a Cause that reflects your core fundamental beliefs. Need Him has a Cause that includes links to all of our videos, testimonies, and website. In the last few weeks we have had more than 1,000 people join Need Him’s Cause. You can Add Cause to Profile so that all of your friends will know where your heart is too. Help Expand the Need Him Cause. In addition to simply adding the Need Him cause to your page you can also invite your friends to join it too. It’s easy and will help us multiply the opportunities we have to start a conversation with even more people about Jesus. In the next few weeks we will be talking about how to use iTunes and Twitter to share Jesus as well. |
